🧬 Club Overview:

Science Olympiad is a club structured around the study and the pursuit of specialized scientific knowledge. We learn about subjects like astronomy, oceanography, and infectious diseases with much further depth than in traditional schooling, working with a partner to better understand these high-level concepts in preparation for the official Science Olympiad competition. For those who excel and are extremely interested and dedicated to scioly competitions, opportunities may be provided to attend invitationals and science competitions outside of the annual competition.

For those uninterested in participating in the annual Science Olympiad competition, there will still be lessons to learn which will involve group experiments and fun activities. Occasionally, we may even have some fun science-related events. The purpose of this club is for members to take something away and become a ‘graduated cylinder’. Come compete, learn, or just have fun!

🔭The Competition:

Club members pick 2-3 events (for example: Astronomy, Anatomy and Physiology, and Disease Detectives) that they study for with a partner. After studying for several months, their work culminates in mid-March with the official Science Olympiad Competition. At the competition, an all-day affair, teams of two will either take tests or demonstrate what they have built to test their knowledge on a scientific subject, competing against around 30 other schools to try to take first.

Don’t worry if you’re new to science olympiad, our more experienced members will guide you through the process. Throughout the whole school year, you will create study material, study with your partner, and make materials you will be able to use during the competition. Even if you don’t will you will be recognized if you perform well during the competition. The scioly competition is truly an experience like no other and is an excellent way of displaying your academic capabilities.
